The Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations says new evidence connected a transient man, currently behind bars, to a case from May 2015.
Court documents show John Discola pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault and burglary in Vermont Superior Court in Burlington on Thursday.
CUSI said Discola is accused of breaking into a home in Burlington and assaulting a woman who lived there.
Officials say he had no prior relationship with the victim.
Discola is currently being held at Northwest Correctional Facility for prior convictions of lewd and lascivious conduct and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. Discola was sentenced in August 2016 on three counts, after investigators say he inappropriately touched women during the 2015 Vermont City Marathon.
He’s due back in court for a status conference at the end of September, according to court documents.
