ROYALTON, Vt. - Court documents show a man with a lengthy criminal record is considered a suspect in the disappearance of a missing Vermont man.
Richard Whitcomb is being held pending trial on two federal firearms charges.
Federal prosecutors wrote in court documents this week that Whitcomb was likely the last person to see Austin Colson of Royalton before he disappeared.
Colson has not been seen since January 11.
Police since located his truck filled with scrap metal, related to his line of work.
Sccording to court documents, Whitcomb admitted to using a firearm as collateral during a drug deal with Colson.
Windsor County State's Attorney David Cahill says the investigation is active and there is reason to believe Colson was harmed or worse.
