Massachusetts police learn sign language with a student’s help

News

Officers with the Mansfield, Mass., Police Department are learning a new skill thanks to a high school senior.

Catherine Fitzgerald, a student at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, is teaching officers sign language.

As part of Fitzgerald’s criminal justice curriculum, she and other seniors are required to come up with a project that will leave a mark on their school.

Mansfield Police Lt. Roy Bain said Fitzgerald’s lessons are “going to go well beyond her.”

Fitzgerald plans to keep studying criminal justice when she attends Curry College.
