Two immigrant farmworkers were taken into custody by Border Patrol after a 13 mile protest march Saturday, according to the group Migrant Justice.

Migrant Justice spokesperson Will Lambek says Esau Peche and Yesenia Hernandez, both from Mexico, were arrested after participating in the Milk With Dignity march to Ben & Jerry’s.

They were returning to the Franklin County farm where they both live and work, Lambek says.

Lambek tells Local 22 & Local 44 News it’s believed they were arrested in connection to their citizenship status.

Migrant Justice is holding two emergency rallies Monday at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility at 7am and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Saint Albans at noon.

Local 22 & Local 44 News has reached out to ICE for comment but we have not yet heard back.
