Driving on Pine Street in Winooski, you can’t help but notice a run-down, closed swimming pool. Just a few years ago, it was home to summer adventures.
Community Services Director Ray Coffey, along with a group of community members, formed a swimming pool committee. Wednesday night, engineering partner Weston and Sampson presented its plans.
Design features include a family pool with a water slide and a competition pool. The city plans to hold swimming lessons once again too.
“I think there’s certainly a benefit with more kids enrolled in swim classes more opportunities for supervised swimming is a great thing,” Coffey said.
The project had a rough price tag of $4.4 million– something the council is working to lower. Coffey said it will be paid for grants, funding and some tax dollars.
Coffey hopes to have his first cannon ball into the new pool come summer 2020.
