New York senator Chuck Schumer says president trump is going about keeping terrorists out of the country is the wrong way.
President Trump’s temporary travel ban blocks nationals from six Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S. A Maryland judge blocked that ban Thursday.
Schumer says instead, congress should look at the visa system.
“Lots of people from isis, Syria and other places have gone to those areas, Belgium, France, where we’ve seen terrorism and they can get into America no questions asked.” Said Schumer. “So it’s sort of aimed at the wrong target. We ought to be tightening up the visa waiver program. That wouldn’t’ have constitutional problems number one, number 2 it would make us much more safe.”
The president called the ruling by the Maryland judge an unprecedented judicial overreach and promised to take the fight all the way to the Supreme Court if needed.
