(CNN) — Police in New Hampshire say a Nashua woman tried to avoid being pulled over for distracted driving but ended up crashing her car and injuring a child.
Tracey Pelletier, 32, is accused of running away from the crash scene, leaving a 6-year-old boy behind.
Authorities say the boy had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
“He was injured,” said Pam Leduc, who witnessed the crash. “He was saying ouch. His heart was racing. And you could tell he was really scared. So yea it was pretty scary.”
Eric Pajor said he was sitting down for lunch when he heard a bang.
“We actually have outside cameras,” he said. “Heard that, looked outside, said oh no go outside see if everyone is okay and call 911.”
Police say officers tried to pull Pelletier over for for using her cell phone while driving. She refused to pull over and ended up careening off the road, creating a cloud of dust and debris outside an Amherst Street business.
Pelletier faces numerous charges, including endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.
