New York State Police say two people have been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation, which occurred in the fall of 2017.
State Police say they recently received information about a possible homicide at 344 Old Meacham Road in Duane.
State Police interviewed John J. Castner, 61, of Duane.
Troopers say he confessed to the murder of a 61-year-old male after shooting him and burying him on the property.
After a search warrant was issued by Franklin County Court Judge Robert Main, troopers recovered a body on John Castner’s property.
A firearm believed to have been used in the homicide was also recovered. Franklin County Coroner Brian Langdon authorized removal of the body to the Albany Medical Center for an autopsy to be performed April 20, 2018.
Following an autopsy at the Albany Medical Center, the victim has been positively identified as David Carpin, 61, of Duane.
Dr. Michael Sikirica has determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the chest. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
Castner was arrested and charged with Murder 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
State Police also say a second suspect, Melissa L. Castner, of North Bangor, was arrested in connection with the investigation. She is charged with Assault 2nd degree.
Both were arraigned in the Town of Malone Court.
John Castner was remanded to the Franklin County Jail on no bail.
Melissa Castner was remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bail, or $60,000 bond.
The State Police Forensic Identification Unit remains on scene on Old Meacham Road to complete their search of the property.
