Police have identified a body found near a railroad bridge in Burlington as that of a man reported missing on New Year’s Eve.

Burlington police have identified the man as Nicholas Cusson-Ducharme, 22, of Winooski. Police say he was last seen in downtown Burlington early Saturday.

“During the initial missing person investigation police learned that Nicholas was reported to be intoxicated and became separated from his friends,” police said in a media statement Monday.

On Sunday, a person known to the family went to the ‘Blue Bridge’ off of Intervale Road and found the Ducharme’s body at the base of the bridge, police said.

The cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
