Barre police say Jon Stone, 28, of Barre was believed to be huffing inhalants before a fatal crash in Barre last Friday night.
According to police, an investigation based on physical evidence and witnesses led police to believe that Stone was huffing inhalants.
According to police, the collision occurred near the Faststop Gas Station in Barre.
Police say Stone was driving south on North Main Street when his car crossed three oncoming lanes of traffic, and drove onto a sidewalk, hitting pedestrian Brian Harris, 58, of Barre.
Officials say Harris died at the hospital.
Authorities say Stone was arrested and charged with gross negligent operation with death resulting.
Stone is scheduled to be arraigned at Vermont Superior Court in Barre on Friday.
