Police: Home of Newbury Murder-Suicide Burglarized

VSP Search for Motive Behind Murder-Suicide in Newbury_84920994

Vermont State Police say the home of a murder-suicide was broken into in Newbury on Thursday.

According to police, a family member found that the home of Kenneth and Barbara Welch had been rummaged through.

Police say several bottles of alcohol and an unknown amount of money was taken from the home.

Earlier in the week at the same home, police discovered two bodies that matched the description of Kenneth and Barbara Welch.

On Monday night, Vermont State Police say they got a call from a relative of 80-year-old Kenneth Welch, saying he shot his wife Barbara.

After an initial investigation of the home, police say they did not find anything out of the ordinary.   Police did recover a handgun at the scene.

A preliminary autopsy confirmed that the couple both died from gunshot wounds to the head.

Police are still investigating a motive for the shooting, and now the recent burglary.

Anyone with information asked to contact Trooper McGarvin at the Vermont State Police, Saint Johnsbury barracks.
