A house used as a summer camp on Camels Hump was intentionally set on fire earlier this month, fire investigators say.

The property, owned by Ronald and Betty Deforge of Barre, Vt., is located on 2141 Camels Hump Road in Duxbury.

Police say, the single story house was burned to the foundation when firefighters arrived on scene the morning of January 6th.

It was leveled by the fire and is considered a total loss.

“This fire is being considered an arson due to the fact the building was vacant, and did not have any power or heat supplied to it at the time the fire was called in,” wrote Det. Sgt. Todd Ambroz, of the Dept. of Public Safety Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit.

There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Todd Ambroz at the State Police Barracks in Middlesex at 802-229-9191 or todd.ambroz@vermont.gov, or by calling the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program at 1-800-32-ARSON (800-322-7766). The Vermont Arson Tip Award Program offers a reward of up to $5000 for information that leads to the arrest of an arsonist.
