A drive-by shooting that hit a window in a St. Johnsbury apartment building early Monday morning has police searching for a suspect.
Just after 1:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to reports of gunfire near Bay Street, a largely industrial street with several factories and run-down buildings.
When police arrived, the suspect was gone, and no information was available on the vehicle. While police investigated the scene, a resident from nearby Washington Street came to notify police that a window in his apartment had been struck by a bullet.
We spoke to several people who work on Bay Street, and they said they hadn’t heard anything about the incident.
Residents from St. Johnsbury were suprised to hear about the incident. Cassie Suliveres, who lives on a nearby street, told us she hasn’t heard of anything like this happening before in town.
“It’s very quiet here,” said Suliveres. “Only once in awhile something really bad happens, and they always deal with it right away.”
St. Johnsbury Chief of Police Timothy Page told us the investigation is still in early stages.
“We took some evidence and started questioning people… The investigation is still beginning.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the St. Johnsbury Police Department.
