Police: Man found dead in Hinesburg was shot multiple times

HINESBURG, Vt– Vermont State Police have released the identity of a man whose body was found late Thursday in the parking lot of a trail head in Hinesburg.

Police say the victim was David Auclair, 45, of Williston. A preliminary investigation shows Auclair was shot multiple times.

Hinesburg police arrived on the scene on Gilman Road at around 10:45 pm. Thursday after receiving reports of gunshots in the area.

Officers found Auclair’s body on the ground next to his gray 2017 GMC pickup truck. His body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiners Office in Burlington for an autopsy.

Police say they are pursuing “multiple avenues of investigation,” reviewing available video and searching the scene and other locations.

Investigators do not believe there is a threat to public safety.

Police are asking that anyone who may have heard gunshots or seen anything suspicious in the area of the trailhead or who saw Auclair call the state police Williston Barracks at 802-878-7111.

The investigation has shut down traffic at Gilman Road near Honey Hill Road.
