Police: Upstate New York Man’s Fatal Heart Attack Causes Three-Car Crash

New York State Police say on Friday a Chateaugay man caused a three-car crash after a fatal heart attack.

According to police, Norbert A. Kanzler, 84, of Chateaugay was driving east on County Route 24 in Bellmont when his SUV sideswiped a pickup truck driven by Paul M. Charron, 50, of Swanton, Vermont.

Police say Kanzler’s SUV then went into the westbound lane and hit another vehicle, Brooks W. Latremore Jr., 74, of Plattsburgh was behind the wheel of that car. 

Investigators say Kanzler was pronounced dead at the hospital. Charron and Latremore were treated for injuries and released. 

According to the media release, an autopsy on Kanzler determined that he died from a heart attack.
