Remembering DCF Social Worker Lara Sobel

It”s been nine months since DCF social worker Lara Sobel’s death. She was shot and killed while leaving work in August. The community will always remember her legacy as a caring state employee.

A bench in her memory is now in place along State Street. The bench was recently installed by her parents. A plaque on the bench reads “Dedicated in loving memory to our daughter, Lara Kim Sobel. A committed advocate for the children of Vermont.”

The Vermont State Employees Association says she was a positive spirit at work and in the community.
“It’s a fitting tribute where people can enjoy themselves, enjoy their lives, enjoy a moment just sitting there, maybe also just reflecting for a moment on the service that our social workers provide to the state, keeping our children safe,” says Steve Howard, Executive Director of VSEA.
Lara Sobel leaves behind a husband and two young daughters.
