A second investigation is officially underway in the case of alleged inappropriate behavior on a high school hockey team.
The Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations, or CUSI, has been investigating the Essex High School boys hockey team. The school district launched it’s investigation today to find if there were incidents of hazing, harassment or bullying.
We know that longtime coach Bill O’Neil is on paid administrative leave as a coach, which is not a disciplinary action. He remains teaching at Essex High School.
One hockey player has been suspended.
The Essex hockey team will be playing in the division one finals this Thursday. Vermont law requires school to launch an investigation for these incidents.
“To the extent that any students feel unsafe, we want to act reasonably to make sure that they feel protected and that students understand, our expectations around behavior,” Pietro Lynn, attorney for the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union, said.
The school’s investigation needs to be completed within five days. Lynn says they expect to have it complete by then, but will take the time if there are extenuating circumstances.
