Burlington High School students got a chance to speak their minds about the opioid crisis with Sen. Bernie Sanders in the audience.
Sanders held the Town Hall Opiate forum Friday afternoon. Alongside Sanders was a doctor, a woman who was addicted to opiates and Attorney General TJ Donovan.
After the officials spoke their piece, the floor was opened up to students to speak freely and ask questions. It wasn’t only a learning opportunity for the teens, but for the adults in the room as well.
Local 22 & Local 44 spoke with Superintendent of Burlington School District Yaw Obeng.
“I learned from my students that they are extremely brilliant,” Obeng said. “They are well informed and engaged on the topical issues of today that impact them and I also learned that they care about their fellow classmates.”
Superintendent Obeng said students learned about the perils of the epidemic. He said he is proud of his students for asking such critical questions.
