Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders introduced a bill addressing the large amount of unfilled positions in the Veterans Health Administration Thursday.
“Supporting our veterans is one of our most important commitments as a country. Strengthening the VA health care system has long been on of my priorities in the Senate. It’s absolutely essential that we provide the VA with the resources it needs to serve these veterans,” Sanders said.
According to Sanders’ Office, the VA health care system has over 45,000 vacant positions.
The Strengthening Veterans Health Care Act of 2017 would give the VA $5 billion to fill these vacancies and make sure veterans are able to get care in a timely manner.
The VA is projected to see 7 million unique patents in 2018, and that number is rising, officials said.
