Shelburne decides fate of local library, approves $6.5 million bond to pay for bigger space

In Shelburne, voters decided the fate of its local library Tuesday night.

Voters approved a $6.5 million bond to pay for a bigger library.

The unofficial results show it was 889 “yes” votes to 742 “no” votes. Nearly $4 million will go towards construction.

Since 2001, the Pierson Library has been attached to Shelburne’s historic town hall, with the children’s section occupying the basement.

The anticipated impact on property owners in Shelburne is expected to be about $35 per $100,000 of assessed value.
