New wind generation facilities will be subject to sound standards.

Vermont Public Utility Commission adopted the rule earlier this month but they just took effect Wednesday.

Small and medium facilities, those up to 50 kilo-watts, have a 42 decibel limit a hundred feet from nearby homes.

For large facilities the limit is 42 decibels during the day and 39 at night.

It does not apply to existing or pending facilities.
