State House Ice Rink One Step Closer to Reality

News

A State House ice rink is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The group “Put A Rink On It” along with the city of Montpelier says the rink could open as early as the end of December.

The 25,000 project is fully funded. The outdoor 40 by 80 foot rink would be on the right side of the lawn when facing the State House.

If the pilot project is approved, the rink would be open during the winter months.

“There’s a lot of ground swell for this project and we are super excited about it in terms of community support, and I think it could bring business downtown, it could present new business opportunities for skate rentals and things like that,” says Nate Hausman of Put A Rink On It.

The project needs approval from the Department of Buildings and General Services and the Capitol Complex Commission. The next meeting with the commission in November 22nd.
