Swanton family welcomes baby amid home flooding

News

A Swanton family welcomed its new bundle of joy just 12 hours before losing its home after the Missisqoui River flooded its banks early Saturday morning.

Parents Josh and Ashley Duchaine were in the hospital with new baby Luke while Ashley’s mother, Maureen, was home taking care of their three other children.

It was the middle of the night when Maureen woke to use the bathroom and noticed the flood waters had risen – trapping them in their home.

She was forced to call 911 and fire crews had to evacuate her and the kids by boat.

Now the family’s home and cars are underwater and many of their items have been destroyed.

“You can have everything and the next day have nothing so appreciate what you have because it can all be taken away from you and nothing in life is certain,” say Ashley Duchaine

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family to help recover some of the items they lost. You can find that here: https://www.gofundme.com/flood-loss-devastation
