A section of route 116 in South Burlington will be closed for several weeks.
Crews with the Vermont Agency of Transportation began replacing the culvert at Potash Brook.
The closure is between Williston Road and Kennedy Drive while all driveways and side roads will remain open.
Crews are hoping to wrap up construction on what’s being called a complex project by September 1.
“There are some unknowns about the ledge underneath the roadway so we have to expose that and then blast that ledge.” Said Chris Achilles, a V-Trans engineer. “The pipe is failing which could cause and unexpected closure of the roadway and so by doing this as a planned closure we can make the closure duration as reduced as possible”
A pedestrian walkway will ensure access for walkers and bikers through the site for the duration of the project.
