University of Vermont Police say there have been reports of recent suspicious calls to students.

According to officials, the Burlington FBI alerted UVM police that someone was calling UVM students saying they were from the FBI. Police say caller would tell students they owed money to the IRS and would be arrested for tax fraud if they didn’t pay the money they owed.

Officials say the caller would tell the victims he had personal information and was aware they were UVM students. Police say the number on the caller ID made the call look like it came from the local Burlington FBI.

Officials say an FBI agent or law enforcement would never ask for money over the phone or threaten someone with an arrest warrant over the phone.

According to police if you have received one of these calls please contact the FBI Public Access Line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
