Vermont continues to lead the nation in production of maple syrup. The Department of Agriculture announced that Vermont produced over 2.2 million gallons of maple syrup in 2020. That’s breaks the record from 2019.
Last year Vermont ranked as the largest producer in the country with just more than 2 million gallons produced.
Palmer’s Sugarhouse in Shelburne, VT speaks on these numbers and how Vermont is able to produce so much. David Palmer, the owner of Palmer Sugarhouse said he was surprised when he heard the numbers.
David said, “We did very well we added more taps this year and we got a new vacuum pump, so our production was very well.”
According to Palmer, a lot of producers have capitalized on the warmer climate. They started producing and tapping on trees in November. This led to them making maple syrup in December.
