Vermont State Police believe a man wanted for second-degree murder may have fled the state. Police have issued an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Jayveon Caballero of Barre for second degree murder.
Police believe 29 year old Caballero shot and killed Markus Austin outside an apartment building early Sunday morning. Police indicated they think he boarded a bus Sunday morning in White River Junction. The bus was scheduled to go to New York City but police think Caballero could have gotten off anywhere.
The shooting may have been sparked by an altercation that occurred earlier that morning outside of Gustos bar in Barre. According to police Austin assaulted Caballero’s girlfriend. When Caballero confronted Austim outside his apartment in Montpelier he allegedly shot Austin killing him. At a
According to Major Glenn Hall with the Vermont State Police, information they gathered suggests Caballero fled the state.
Caballero’s girlfriend, 22 year old Desiree Cary was arrested Sunday as part of an ongoing drug distribution investigation. Cary is being charged with selling crack cocaine and heroin.
According to Montpelier police, this is the first murder to occur there since the 1920’s. The last homicde occured in Montpelier in 2011.
