Vermont State Police searching for man involved in Swanton crash

According to Vermont State Police, a man is on the run after allegedly crashing a vehicle and leaving it in the middle of I-89 near Swanton. Police are searching for Todd Bonyea, 37, of St. Albans.

Authorities say Bonyea was driving a car that belonged to Krista Chesebro, 38, of St. Albans after the car crashed he ran off into the woods.

According to police, Chesebro had called the police to report that her car was stolen.

Investigators say Chesebro later told police that Bonyea had crashed her car.  Chesebro said Bonyea told her to tell police it was stolen.

Police say Chesebro was arrested and issued a citation to answer the charge of false information to a police officer.

Police say the vehicle had evidence that alcohol and intravenous drug were consumed. According to investigators, the search for Bonyea determined that his cell phone signal tracked him back to his home in St. Albans.

Authorities say with a search warrant police were able to discover that Bonyea had left his home and was picked up by an unknown person.
