Donation Helps UVM Establish Palliative Medicine Chair

Vermont

The University of Vermont Foundation celebrates a new chair to the College of Medicine.

Hundreds of supporters gathered inside the Davis Center to welcome Dr. Robert Grambling as the 100th endowed faculty member of palliative medicine. Palliative meaning advanced illness. It’s one of the highest honors the Univeristy can bestow.

The announcement was paired with a speech from Dr. BJ Miller, a nationally known palliative care expert whose Ted talk has over three million views. The new addition couldn’t have been possible without a generous donation.

“The largest single gift to our University Vermont Medical Center establishes our hospitals and our clinics to be able to have the kind of space that is so clinically important for healthcare,” said Tom Sullivan, President, University of Vermont.

Dr. Grambling has been described as a “well respected teacher, scholar, clinician and researcher.” With him and the three million dollar donation by Holly and Bob Miller, UVM will be able to put more effort into establishing the palliative care program.
