Springfield, VT — At around 2:30 pm on Monday, 50-year-old Todd Amell was hit by gunfire on Valley Street. He sustained a gunshot wound to one of his legs and was transported to the hospital, treated and released.

Neighbors claim police were responding to a separate incident on Valley Street when they heard the gunshots. Apparently, this isn’t the first incident on this street and while locals are waiting on police to fill in the details, people say something needs to be done.

“I put trash out and saw two cops,” said Theresa Kirkwood. “I hear bang bang bang and here we go again, same as a couple weeks ago. Something has gotta be done, it’s catch and release, catch and release.”

“As I stepped out of the house, you could hear gunshots down the road,” said Shana Jasinksi. “The road is known for a lot of things that are illegal.”

“Pretty terrified,” said Darille Bunker. “I’m trying to get them to move the bus stop. It’s not a safe place for anybody at this point.”

The Springfield Police Department and Vermont State Police are investigating the incident. Several individuals were initially detained but have since been released and there is no one in custody facing charges at this time. Investigators believe that the shooting was not random and that the individuals involved are known to one another.
