One Vermonter is stuck in her dorm building because of Hurricane Irma.

Emma Patriquin is from Hartford, Vermont and goes to Ave Maria University in Florida. Ave Maria is about 30 miles from Naples on the coast.

She told us plane ticket prices were inflated so she wasn’t able to make it home. Emma’s mom and other family members have been checking in on their Vermonter stuck in the storm’s path.

“I have all my family texting me wanting updates, wanting to know how I am and what’s going on,” she said. “She’s a little concerned, but I told her the dorms are really safe.”

Emma said the dorms are built to withstand a category four hurricane. At the moment Hurricane Irma is category three.

She said her biggest concern once the storm is over is being able to go out into the community and help those affected worse than she.
