Vt. Cheesemakers Festival Speaks to Growing Craft Food Trend


Visitors from nearly every state in the country congregate in Shelburne every July for the Vermont Cheesemakers Festival.

The 9th annual Vermont Cheesemakers Festival was held Sunday at Shelburne Farms.

Vermont is home to more cheesemakers per capita than any other state.

Forty two cheesemakers showcase their products at the festival.

With cheese, beer, wine, honey and jam on the menu and more than 1,700 tickets sold, it’s a sign that people are on the craft food bandwagon.

“Food in this country has really become such a niche experience for people, everything from cheese to dining, to beer and wine,” said Tom Bivins, Executive Director of Vermont Cheese Council. “You know Vermont sells, grows, year after year as we sort of reach further out into the heartland of America and more and more people discover Vermont cheese, this is just one more way for them to discover it.”

The event is hosted by the Vermont Cheese Council.

One hundred and fifty local craft food and beverage vendors participated.
