Sharon, Vt. - Dana Colson Jr. said he was anxious Thursday.
The day before, Vermont State Police confirmed they found what appeared to be human remains at Beaver Meadow Road in Norwich, Vermont.
It was part of a scheduled search for Dana’s son, Austin, who had been missing since January 11.
"Since the snow has melted, we put flyers out at some of the recycling stations around town, and on social media to alert the public on what to look for as far as Austin’s personal affects," said Dana.
Austin was preparing to collect scrap metal, the day he was last seen.
Police later located his truck filled with scrap pieces.
"We’ve thought for a long time his is worst case scenario and the odds are that it is Austin, you know there’s always that little glimmer of hope that he’s still alive but I think that’s unlikely, you have to be realistic,” said Dana.
Austin’s father said he was asked to gather dental records to assist in the identification process.
In the meantime he and the detectives are working closely to figure out what happened.
In February, police pinpointed a possible person of interest.
Prosecutors said Richard Whitcomb was likely the last person to see Austin, before he disappeared.
“We've have targeted some areas where the suspect has worked, as well as places where the trailer was found with the scrap metal, and were seeing the results of that search effort," said Dana.
According to court documents, Whitcomb admitted to using a firearm as collateral during a drug deal with Colson.
As for Austin Colson's dad, he can't help but think about what was, and what was to come.
"It was the beginning of having a nice future, and to have that all taken away is just heart wrenching, I miss him."
