“With more and more police involved shooting throughout the state, I think the public would like to know what the yearly firearms re-certification training requirements are for a police officer,” wrote a viewer in an email.

Vermont State Police director of training and recruiting Lieutenant Steve Coote says anyone granted law enforcement duties is required to be recertified annually.
That’s mandated by the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council.
However, he says, Vermont State Police requires its force to pass the proficiency test twice a year, in addition to other training.
Lt. Coote says the tactical unit qualifies even more frequently than that.
