16-year-old Julia Spensley, of Jericho, Vt., has been accepted into a yearlong trainee program with the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, Russia.
Spensley began taking ballet classes at the age of three. After a taking a few years to study Celtic dancing, she found a renewed passion for ballet and hopes to pursue the art professionally in the future.
A summer intensive led to an invite to audition in Boston. Out of hundreds of students who apply each year, just a few are chosen. As an international student, Spensley, and her mother Elena are faced with a multitude of expenses, totaling more than $18,000. For Spensley, it’s well-worth the price tag, though, to receive some of the world’s best ballet training.
The Spensleys say it’s been a proud and exciting moment for them and they are grateful for the community’s continued support of Julia.
