Allie Beattie may be a captain on the basketball court, but the balancing act she has to pull off everyday is even more impressive.
“I never have to worry about her drive, or her playing lazy,” Peru girls’ basketball head coach Eric Dubay said.
That effort appears to follow the senior off the court, too. She plays at least two sports every season of the year, and still finds a way to maintain an excellent GPA and devote time to the demanding New Visions Program at UVM CVPH & UVM Elizabethtown.
“There’s 12 students in each class, and we’re all aspiring health care professionals,” Beattie said. “So half of my school day is spent [at Peru] and half of it is spent as the hospital.”
Beattie plans to attend the CVPH School of Radiology upon graduation and pursue a career in that specialty.
“When I was in middle school I took an aptitude test and it told me radiation therapy, so I looked into that,” Beattie explained. ‘Then finding out about New Visions was a great way for me to get into that field while I’m still in high school.”
