High school lacrosse teams entered the quarterfinal round Friday afternoon, looking to book a trip to the state semifinals.
No. 8 Rutland boys’ lacrosse had top-seeded CVU on the ropes to start the game, but when the Redhawks started scoring consistently late in the first quarter, they didn’t stop.
Champlain Valley pulled away from Rutland to seal a 15-5 win and move on to the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the top-seeded South Burlington girls’ lacrosse team had to fight through a tough CVU girls’ team.
The Wolves and Redhawks traded leads throughout the first half, and in the end, South Burlington outlasted Champlain Valley in a 13-11 decision.
