Lake Monsters fall short against Tri-City

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Lake Monsters once again played to a one-run final with Tri-City, but Monday night the ValleyCats outlasted Vermont 3-2.

The Monsters (9-8) are now tied for first in the Stedler Division with Tri-City (9-8).

The ValleyCats jumped out to a two-run lead in the third inning as Gilberto Celestino roped a double with the bases loaded, knocking in two runs.

Vermont answered in the bottom of the inning when Anthony Churlin recorded an RBI single for the Monsters' first run of the game. Then, Alex McKenna extended the Tri-City lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning with a two-out RBI double.

The Lake Monsters added one more run on a fielder's choice grounder in the seventh, but they couldn't stir up any more runs.

Vermont hosts Tri-City in game three of the series Tuesday at 12:05 p.m.
