The Lake Monsters entered Game 2 against Staten Island riding their longest win streak of the season with four-straight victories.
The Staten Island Yankees snapped the streak with a strong offensive performance in a 7-5 triumph over Vermont.
The Yankees started the game with a lead-off, solo home run courtesy of Ezequiel Duran.
However, the Monsters answered in the bottom of the first inning as Jordan Diaz launched a two-run bomb over the wall in right field to take the 2-1 lead.
Diaz and the Monsters added to the advantage in the third inning when he laced a two-RBI line drive into right field. Diaz hit in all four of Vermont’s runs through the third inning.
But the Yankees powered through the deficit, first evening the score on a three-run home run from Josh Smith, and then taking the lead on a wild pitch.
Staten Island’s Matt Pita recorded a two-RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to build the 7-4 advantage. Vermont scored one more run, but ultimately fell short in the 7-5 loss.
The Monsters and Yankees finish the series Wednesday at Centennial Field at 7:05 p.m.
