Mountaineers overwhelm the Gulls

The Mountaineers got up early and kept the offense rolling against the Gulls at Montpelier Recreation Field on Saturday.

Vermont racked up seven runs in the first two innings, and nearly doubled the output in the remaining frames en route to a 13-2 decision over Newport.

Left fielder Curtis Robison was a hit machine for the Mountaineers, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the home squad. Second baseman Matt McDermott and right fielder Cam Climo each added two RBIs in the win.

The win lifted Vermont to 17-13 this season, now just one game back of first place in the NECBL Northern Division. Newport fell to 16-13.

The Mountaineers hit the road to play the Valley Blue Sox on Sunday, July 14 and Newport travels to Mystic for a contest with the Schooners.
