The Vermont Lake Monsters closed out a three game series Saturday night against the Lowell Spinners. Jordan Diaz took home the 2019 Tom Racine award for being Vermont’s MVP.

Both Vermont and Lowell entered Saturday night’s game with similar recent records. Both squads have gone 5-5 in their last ten games.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Shane Selman knocked the ball to short and Jordan Diaz touched home plate for the 1-0 Vermont lead.

In the top of the seventh inning for Lowell, Alex Erro popped the ball high into the gap and sent Nicholas Northcut home to tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jordan Diaz slammed the ball towards the sky, the sac fly sent Marty Bechina home for the 2-1 Vermont lead.

Top of the ninth inning with two outs, Lowell’s Stephen Scott launched off a solo bomb that went over the wall. Spinners tied things up at 2. A few batters later Jonathan Diaz doubled and sent Northcut home. Lowell took down Vermont 3-2.

Vermont falls to 30-37 with nine games remaining this season, Lowell improves to 37-30.

The Lake Monsters are back in action tomorrow Sunday, August 24 facing Brooklyn for a three-game series starting at 4 p.m.
