Middlebury men’s soccer wins big over Castleton


Panthers pour it on against in-state rival

The Spartans snapped the Panthers’ scoreless streak in Sunday’s matchup, but Middlebury loaded the scoreboard in a win at South Street Field.

Midd junior forward Jacob LaBranche (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) tallied the first two games of the contest en route to a 7-1 blowout against Castleton.

The lone Spartans tally came from a penalty kick in the second half. Junior midfielder Jack Kingdon (Woodbury, Conn./Bridgton Academy) beat the keeper to score first against Middlebury this year. The Panthers had not allowed a goal for the first 549:14 of the season.

Middlebury improved to a still-unbeaten 4-0-2 this season and will host Connecticut College on Saturday, October 5 at 12 p.m. Castleton fell to 2-6-0 as they stay on the road against Southern Maine on Saturday, October 5 at 12 p.m.
