Vermont let the Bay Sox battle back in the ninth, but it took just one extra inning for the Mountaineers to finish the job at Montpelier Recreation Field on Friday.
Mountaineers catcher Ciaran Devenny (Manalapan, N.J. /UMass Lowell) was clutch all night. Devenny hit a two-out, two-run single in the sixth to give Vermont its first lead of the contest, and delivered the deciding blow with a two-out single in the tenth to give his team the 6-5 win.
Vermont pitcher Beau Keathley (Taylor, Mich. / Oakland University) let two runs comes in to take the game to extras, but stayed in for the tenth and earned the win.
Vermont improved to 16-13 this season, and will look to string a couple wins together when they host Newport on Saturday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m.
New Bedford’s win streak was stopped at two as they fell to 7-20. Bay Sox are back in action July 13 as they travel to play Ocean State at 6:30 p.m.
