Peru and Saranac squared off at an unusual 1:30 p.m. start time, and gave Saranac students from grades 6-12 a chance to see what unified athletes were capable of.
They did not disappoint.
In the final 14 seconds, the Chiefs and Indians traded go-ahead threes, with the latter being a Lester Trombley dagger to give Peru a 36-35 victory.
“I couldn’t believe that I made that shot,” Trombley said. The Peru senior also made a key defensive stop in the closing moments to seal the win.
“The last minute of the game was worth the entire 32 minutes,” Peru head coach Chris Burdash said. “That game was more exciting that most of the varsity games I’ve coached.”
