Plattsburgh women’s hockey hosts youth camp

Young hockey players get to learn from national champions

The defending Division III national champions continued mentoring young girls at Ameri-Can North Sports Center in Plattsburgh on Wednesday.

SUNY Plattsburgh’s women’s hockey team has hosted the hockey camp for the past several years, aimed at developing girls ages 7-13 as the Cardinals lead on-ice and off-ice drills.

“I’ve seen a lot of smiles,” Plattsburgh sophomore defender Hanna Rose said. “They’re working hard, they’re sweating. They’re excited for the water breaks, but they’re ready to go back at it which is cool to see.”

“From day one to day four you definitely see an improvement in a lot of the kids,” Plattsburgh women’s hockey head coach Kevin Houle said. “They really have a lot of fun and have a lot of laughs. It’s just a good time for not only the kids, but us coaches.”

The camp wraps up Thursday, August 8. The Plattsburgh women’s hockey season starts Saturday, October 26 with an exhibition game against the Ottawa Lady 67’s in Ronald B. Stafford Arena.
