Rain cuts NECBL All-Star game short

Northern All-Stars earn unofficial win after 2.5 innings

A rainbow of jersey colors flooded Montpelier Recreation Field for the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game Sunday evening.

The Northern All-Stars squared off with the Southern All-Stars with MLB scouts looking on.

The local NECBL talent was well-represented. Jordan DeValerio, Anthony Quirion, Aaron Hasse and Cole Frederick represented Upper Valley while Ryan Murphy, Austin Gauthier, Alec Huertas, Cam Climo and Nicholas DeGennaro were the Vermont Mountaineers selections.

Upper Valley’s DeValerio and Vermont’s Murphy pitched scoreless single innings in the early frames.

In the bottom of the second inning, Ryan Hogan (Keene) looped a pop-up into shallow center field to score the man on third for a 1-0 Northern lead.

The rain came down heavy and hard mid-way through the third inning and it did not let up, forcing the game to be cancelled after two and a half innings.

The Northern All-Stars earned the unofficial 1-0 win due to the rain-out.
