Rutland, St. J heading to D1 boys’ state final


The lower seeds prevailed in the semifinal double-header in Patrick Gym on Monday night.

Defending champion No. 3 Rutland squared off against No. 2 Mt. Mansfield in a rematch of last year’s championship game.

Once again, the Raiders emerged victorious, and topped the Cougars 61-52 for a chance at a three-peat.

The two teams bounced in last year’s semifinals battled for the other spot in the finals as No. 1 Rice and No. 5 St. Johnsbury took to the court.

The Hilltoppers came out on top with a 55-54 victory after Alex Carlisle drained a jumper with 10 seconds to go in the contest.

Rutland and St. J will fight for championship gold at 2 p.m. on March 2 in Patrick Gym.
