St. Johnsbury boys’ basketball snaps state title drought

Sports

The Hilltoppers took down Rutland in Patrick Gym on Sunday to claim their first Division I state championship since 1997.

Senior guard Alex Carlisle scored 24 point in the 54-50 victory; his total was the most in a D1 championship since 2005.

Rutland held the lead for much of the game, but St. J pushed forth in the late stages of the game and came away with the victory.

The boys join the Hilltopper girls’ basketball team to sweep both state titles in Division I for the first time in school history. It is the seventh time overall that the feat has been accomplished.
