Sweet redemption: Missisquoi takes Div. II title

Sports

After falling short in two consecutive state title games, Missisquoi Valley Union finally finished on top with a 3-1 triumph over Woodstock Union in the Division II state championship at Gutterson Fieldhouse Thursday night.

The Thunderbirds struck first when Callie Parks poked in a rebound shot from Brianna (Breezy) Parent for a 1-0 lead 3:11 into the first period.

About ten minutes later, Parent pulled ahead on a breakaway and scored a highlight-reel goal where she ended up in the net! (See video above.)

In the second period, Woodstock’s Alessandra Cimis converted on a breakaway of her own to close the gap to a 2-1 MVU lead.

However, in the final period of play, the senior captain Callie Parks tallied a second goal to seal the 3-1 state title win. The victory marks the second Division II championship win in Missisquoi girls’ hockey history.
