The double-elimination tournament started for Vermont legion baseball teams at Colchester High School on Saturday.
The Northern Legion’s top-seeded Colchester Cannons walked off against the south’s fourth seed White River Post 84 to get the win in the ninth-inning.
Cannons outfielder Tyler Daniels sent a single into shallow center to drive in the winning run and propel his team to a 7-6 win.
North Legion Pitcher of the Year Saul Minaya allowed two White River runs in the first, and was pulled before he could record a full inning.
White River surged for three runs in the top of the seventh to force extras, but Post 84 couldn’t complete the comeback.
The late finish for Colchester pushed the matchup back an hour between SD Ireland (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Rutland Post 31, and SDI got off to a hot start.
SD sluggers tallied two runs before anyone got out, and racked up eight runs in the first two frames to breeze past Rutland, 10-2.
In the first game of the day, Brattleboro Post 5 shut out Essex Post 91, 7-0.
The final contest of the day one slate was suspended with South Burlington leading Lakes Region 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth. That game will resume at Essex High school on July 28 at 10 a.m.
